HOW TO FIGHT OFF A SHARK

As I’m a big fan of Shark Week on the Discovery Channel (and if you’re a fan too you know that it was Shark Week recently) let’s talk about how to fight off a shark! Just imagine it, you’re on holiday, just minding your own business and suddenly you’re confronted by a shark! What do you do? Does it just want your wallet and phone, or does it actually want your organs and a few limbs as well? Who knows? So, what can you do in this situation?

If you’re able to have a few moments of clarity, here are some options:

  • Punch the shark in the eye or nose, there are stories of people who have done this and who have lived to tell the tale, so it can’t hurt to try.

  • Got a knife? Aim it at the shark’s gills or underside, even if it doesn’t work, it’ll look cool if someone is filming it and your friends can at least remember you looking pretty badassed trying to fight a shark with a knife.

  • Swim away and get to land, that probably should have been the first piece of advice, but let’s face it, you’re probably not gonna outswim a shark no matter how many Olympic medals you have at home.

  • Hide behind things like corals and stuff that might give you some level of protection. At the end of the day, sharks are lazy like us, so if you’re too difficult a meal, they’ll just order something else.

  • That’s probably about all the options you’ll likely have, but whatever you do, don’t try to make lots of noise to scare it away (I think that’s just for bears). The shark probably doesn’t care about you and may actually leave you alone, but the noise will actually get its attention and might make you appear more delicious.

  • Oh, forgot to mention not to bleed, it’ll attract more sharks.

The moral of this story is just be careful, and if you see or feel a shark is near, just get out of the water.

Finally, Sharknado is the best shark movie ever made, LOL!

Let me know if you feel you have better advice about how not to be a shark snack than what I’ve shared, not that I expect you could top my expert advice…
